Boy Scout Troop 90 celebrates Court of Awards and Court of Honor

Boy Scouts from Troop 90 celebrated their Fall Court of Awards in October honoring eight scouts who advanced in rank, four new scouts who joined the troop and the presentation of the highest rank of Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, to Foster Lynch, 19, a 2014 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.

Foster earned his Eagle Scout award by organizing a cleanup of the St. Pius X school parking lot and woods, which included waste removal and landscaping on the grounds.

During his Scouting career, Foster earned a total of 34 Merit Badges as part of his requirement to become an Eagle Scout, including Citizenship in the Community, Nation and World, Environmental Science, Lifesaving, Small Boat Sailing and Wood Carving. Additionally, he has participated in leadership positions within the troop and has achieved Brotherhood membership within the Order of the Arrow Honor Society.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. Since the first Boy Scout earned his Eagle award over 100 years ago in 1912, the distinction has been earned by more than two million young men. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating ideals of service and leadership, including organizing and leading an extensive service project.

Foster was joined by his parents Richard and Chris Lynch at the ceremony held at the First Baptist Church in Chili.

Also at the ceremony four scouts joined the troop at the Rank of Scout: Sam Colson, Joe D’Ambra, Alexander Powell and Carson Wohlers, Michael Randolph and Sam Servati earned the rank of Tenderfoot, Alexander Rivard, Connor O’Hara and John Tracy advanced to the Rank of 1st Class Scout and Blaine Pawlaczyk, Connor Sargent and Parker Story advanced to the rank of Star Scout.

“We are so proud of our troop and the leadership they provide through eagle scout projects that help our local religious institutions, schools and community,” said Scoutmaster Keith Wimer. “We look to advance as many scouts as we can to the rank of Eagle and are always pleased with the creativity, thought and effort that go into the projects especially since fewer than five percent of Boy Scouts nationwide attain this rank.”

To support their activities, Troop 90 will hold a Can and Bottle Drive on Saturday, January 3, 2015 in the towns of Gates and Chili. For information about Troop 90, or to get information about joining, contact the troop website at  www.bsa90.com.
