Area resource helps collect medical info

If you’re looking to increase your knowledge about health issues and well-being; to feel empowered in making personal health decisions and/or enhance your  communication with health care providers, there is a local resource ready to provide help and information.

“The Stabins Wellness Information Center at Rochester General Hospital offers confidential answers to your medical questions,” says Mary Ann Howie, M.L.S., wellness librarian for the Rochester Regional Health System, Rochester General Hospital Werner Medical Library.

She explains that the library has been providing reliable health information to patients, families and the general public for more than fifteen years. The Stabins Wellness Information Center is located in the hospital library.

“Our  medical librarians provide reliable, easy to understand health information,” Howie says.  “We will mail or email the information to your home.”

The service is available free of charge to the Greater Rochester community and is highly confidential, Howie adds.

She emphasizes that the Center provides information – not medical advice – and that for specific concerns, a person should consult their physician.

To contact the Stabins Wellness Information Center call 585-922-9355 or email:  wellness@rochesterregional.org. The website address is: www.wernerlibrary.org/wellness and click on the request form.

Additionally, Howie says www.medlineplus.gov is a “great starting point to access trusted health information. It’s reliable and easy to use and understand,” she says.
