Unique wildflower blooms in Spring

Trillium is a native perennial flowering wildflower plant which grows in woodsy areas that are undisturbed. It’s named for its tri-count of petals and leaves. Some species of trillium are listed as threatened or endangered and picking them is discouraged.

The red/maroon one photographed above grows in a swampish area in southern Ogden.

The more common — but equally beautiful — white trillium blooms at the same time as the more rare variety. Provided photo by Pete Barbeto.
