Completes 1,000 books before kindergarten

Congratulations to Violet Wanck-Kann for completing the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. After finishing the book Biscuit Goes to School, the five year old Newman Riga Library patron had successfully read 1,000 books. Violet signed up for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program in April and her entire family pitched in to help her reach her goal before starting kindergarten this September.

The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a cooperative early literacy program offered by the libraries in Scottsville, Gates, Chili and Churchville, along with the Wheatland-Chili, Churchville-Chili and Gates-Chili school districts. The program encourages families to read aloud to their children, building literacy and vocabulary skills beginning at birth and continuing until school age.
