Riga luncheon honors local veterans

Local veterans were honored November 12 during a luncheon hosted by the Churchville-Riga Chamber of Commerce at the Harvey C. Noone Post Home in Churchville. About 70 veterans and their guests attended.  Joe Donohue, facility manager for the Eagle Star Home in Spencerport, was the guest speaker.

Eagle Star is a transitional home for male veterans who are referred by the VA hospital in Canandaigua.  Eagle Star’s mission is to develop, maintain and operate decent, safe and sanitary affordable housing for veterans in transition.

Those attending the luncheon were able to get a first-hand look at recent  improvements made to the entrance stairs and handicap ramp into the Legion Home. The work was made possible by a grant from the Home Depot Foundation.

Additionally, Harvey C. Noone Post has recently launched an Action Plan including the establishment of “Roof and Maintenance Fund” to help pay for  a new roof.
