GCVM hosts Celtic Faire

Whether it’s an Irish fiddle or harp, or the great Highland bagpipe, it’s music to satisfy the soul on Saturday, June 17, at Genesee Country Village & Museum’s Celtic Faire.

With the flying feet of Irish dancers and others performing to the traditional music of Scotland and Ireland, it will be a day of pure delight for lovers of all things Celtic.

Preformers include:

•Drumcliffe School of Irish Dance

•Feadán Òr Pipe Band

•Gates Keystone Club Police Pipes & Drums

•Goodwin Academy of Irish Dance

•Harpist Mary Lester

•Irish Rochester Musician’s Association

•Rochester Scottish Pipes and Drums

An array of authentic food and drinks, specialty vendors and a variety of Celtic-focused activities in the Historic Village fill out the day.

Kids can test their abilities in a firkin foot race, tug of war and caber and sheaf tosses. There will be demonstrations of skirting fleeces, processing and spinning flax, lace making, natural dyeing and how to cook the perfect Scottish oatcake.

Visitors can try spinning with a drop spindle or taste a wee bit o’ haggis or “petticoat tails” (Scottish shortbread).

The event concludes with a special massed bands performance on the museum’s Great Meadow.

Special event admission costs $22 adult; $14 youths 4-16; $19 seniors 62 and up and students with ID; free to children three and under.
