Greater Brockport Development Corporation announces 2017 Summer Serenades Music Series

Summer will soon arrive and with it comes Brockport’s own Summer Serenades community music series, presenting eight weeks of lively concerts by terrific musicians. It’s family friendly, always fun and also free.

As in previous years, performances will be held every Thursday evening in July (at 7 p.m.) and August (at 6:30 p.m.) at the Brockport Welcome Center on the Erie Canal, just east of Main Street. The alternate location in case of rain or excessive heat will be The Lodge on the Canal, formerly the Sweden Senior Center, at 133 State Street. Concerts last about an hour and a half.

The 2017 lineup includes some returning favorites and some new faces, most of whom have a special connection to Brockport. Some band members grew up here; others teach locally, studied at the College at Brockport, or are current residents.

Musical styles range from the country sounds of Julie Dunlap to tunes from The American Songbook as interpreted by The Geezers, Brockport Big Band, and the Celebration Brass Quintet. Zak’s Pack, John Nygeres Quartet, Brothers from Other Mothers and Chris Wilson round out the series with jazz, rhythm and blues, and folk music.

Bring a blanket or chairs unless planning to dance and sing along. Stop at one of Brockport’s local eateries before or after or bring a picnic. Alcohol and tobacco are not permitted at the Serenades.

The annual series, produced by the Greater Brockport Development Corporation, is completely funded this year by the generous contributions of community members, local merchants, and civic groups. Tax deductible donations (by check written to GBDC – Summer Serenades) can still be mailed to GBDC, c/o Jacquie Davis, 14 Adams Street, Brockport, NY 14420.
