Celebrate 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage

A celebration at the Morgan-Manning House, October 12

The Western Monroe Historical Society celebrates 2017 as the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York State on Thursday, October 12, starting at 7 p.m. The evening will highlight the Brockport speeches given by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton at the Morgan – Manning House, 151 Main Street in Brockport.

Gordy Fox will do a brief biography of Anthony’s life. Bill Andrews will comment on Brockport’s connection with Anthony who visited the village in April, 1867, accompanied by Stanton. Anthony also visited the village in 1873 and 1884. Kathy Goetz will do readings from the speeches delivered in Brockport. Dan Hawkin will play the role of Horatio N. Beach, editor and publisher of the Brockport Republic, who will offer a rebuttal to one of Anthony’s speeches.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program. For more information call 637-3645.
