New York State Ballet presents “The Nutcracker”

The New York State Ballet will present its 2018 “The Nutcracker,” set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score. Performed with a live orchestra under the direction of Music Director Jared Chase and accompanied by the Lyric Voices, this production opens December 14 at the Kodak Center for the Performing Arts.

Follow along as Young Clara falls asleep at her family’s Christmas party under a majestic Christmas tree with her beloved Nutcracker doll by her side. Watch as her doll magically comes alive, battles the Mouse King and his army, and takes her to the Land of Sweets. There she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and enjoys enchanting dances from around the world.

Incorporating, as always, the full company of dancers and many students from New York State Ballet’s training academy, the newest addition this year are dancers from NYSB’s Graduate Program. The five dancers in this elite program will be dancing in their first Nutcracker performance with the New York State Ballet this season in various roles. Students from the training academy get to showcase their ever-growing talents alongside the company, some of them in their first ever performances.

Performances are Friday, December 14 at 7 p.m., Saturday, December 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, December 16 at 2 p.m. at the Kodak Center for the Performing Arts.

Group pricing is available, and dancer meet and greets will be held after every show. Tickets for the performance start at $10 and can be purchased through nysb.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006. Children’s tickets include entry to a Sugar Plum party at the NYSB training academy studio, including arts and crafts, treats, and dancing.
