Brockport Big Band to perform charity concert

The Brockport Big Band will be performing at Greece Baptist Church on Sunday, March 24, at 7 p.m.  The concert is free, but all are encouraged to bring food items to help the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf.

The Brockport Big Band was formed 15 years ago by band member, Lorie Bryant.  The band, directed by Walt Perkins, is a non-profit, all volunteer group of musicians who enjoy performing big band music.  Their repertoire includes big band era standards, contemporary compositions and arrangements as well as big band versions of popular hit songs. The group’s members are active and retired music educators plus talented people from various other professions.  They rehearse every Tuesday from September until mid-June in preparation for several Christmas concerts, the Brockport High School Evening of Jazz, and in late June, their annual performance at the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

Future concerts include: June 11, 7 p.m., at St John’s Brickstone; June 24, 6 p.m., at the Rochester International Jazz Festival (Big Tent); July 9, 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., at Legacy North Chili; July 14, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Spencerport gazebo; and July 23, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at 90.1 Jazz Radio Outdoor Concert at Greece Olympia High School.
