Hilton HS Drumline takes first place in Winter Guard International Championship

The Hilton HS Drumline is the new world champion in the Winter Guard International Championship Percussion Scholastic A Class.The 27 members of the Hilton HS Drumline took place in the Winter Guard International Championship competition on April 19 in Dayton, Ohio – making the group world champions. Hilton advanced through two preliminary rounds before reaching the finals the next day. Included in Hilton’s Percussion Scholastic A Division were 62 drumlines qualifying for the annual tournament. Hilton entered the event as the top seed, and bested finalists from Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Nevada.

When the students returned home on the evening of April 20 they were greeted by a crowd of well-wishers congratulating them on their achievement. The Hilton Drumline’s 2013 accomplishments also included first place in the New York State Percussion Circuit Championship held in Syracuse on April 7, and first place in the WGI Mid-Atlantic Regional in Unionville, Pennsylvania on March 16. The Hilton HS Drumline is directed by HCSD music teacher Tim Stodd.
