Brockport village budget adopted

by Kristina Gabalski

The Village of Brockport’s financial turn-around continues as Village Board members unanimously adopted a $4.7 million general fund budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year which begins June 1.

Board members voted on the budget during their regular meeting April 23. Village Treasurer Dan Hendricks said the tax levy is down $43,000 from the current fiscal year.

The 2013-2014 tax rate is $11.73/ $1,000 of assessed valuation, down from $12.09 in 2012-2013.

Hendricks said that is a reduction in the rate of about three percent. “An increase in assessed value for the community,” is the main reason for the drop, he said, and noted the village is, “moving in the right direction,” financially.

Water and sewer rates will remain unchanged in 2013-2014.

Members of the Board thanked Hendricks for his work on the budget. “You are doing a fantastic job,” Trustee Kent Blair said.

“We appreciate how you handled the budget,” Trustee Margaret Blackman said.

Mayor Connie Castaneda thanked Hendricks for meeting with her several times to work on preparing the budget.

“I’m very pleased the tax levy conforms to tax cap regulations,” the mayor said.
