A time honored tradition marches on with Spencerport Carnival

The annual Spencerport Volunteer Fire Association Parade and Carnival, now a community tradition for more than 80 years, kicks off  the evening of Wednesday, June 10 with the Youth Parade. Line-up begins at 6:30 p.m. Younger children will line up at Key Bank in the Plaza in the Village and all other youth will line up at the corner of Union Street and Brockport Road. A carnival wristband ride pass will be available for $18 per person on Wednesday, June 10 with a coupon.

Carnival rides and attraction will open on June 10 at 5 p.m. at the Firemen’s Field located near the lift bridge in Spencerport village.

Thursday, June 11 is the annual Firemen’s Grand Parade that begins at 7 p.m. The parade route begins at the Spencerport Central Schools Administration Building, follows Lyell Avenue down to Union Street and continues through the village and finishes up at Amity Street. The parade will take place rain or shine. Line-up for all parade marchers is 6 p.m. at Spencerport Central Schools Administration building. A DJ will entertain at carnival tent on the carnival grounds following the parade beginning at 9 p.m.

Last year’s parade drew almost 4,000 people, according to organizers.

“The success of the parade and carnival is always weather dependent. We hope to have a great year this year. Last year’s carnival drew between 10-15,000 people,” said Joe Muniz, president of the Spencerport Volunteer Firemen’s Association.

Advance sale ticket sheets, (12 tickets for $20), as well as the carnival wristband ride pass coupons are available at Tops Supermarket in Spencerport, the Village of Spencerport Office, the Town of Ogden office and Krony’s Pizza in Spencerport.

On Saturday, June 13, a carnival wristband ride pass will be available for $25 per person. This offer begins at noon and continues until the rides close. All carnival wristband ride passes are only valid with the event coupon.

Local bands Karma and Tryst are booked to play in the carnival tent on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13 beginning both nights at 8 p.m. Karma is scheduled Friday night and Tryst is set for Saturday.

“We are proud to bring back these bands for this year’s carnival tent entertainment. Both bands provide great music and are family friendly musicians,” Muniz said.

Later this summer, the public is invited to participate in a Community Day event on August 1. The festivities kick-off at 11 a.m. with the running of the Spencerport Red Onions Drill Team Firematic Competition. The tournament will be held at the West Avenue extension road at the Spencerport Village DPW. Following the tournament, there will be a food truck rodeo at 4:30 p.m., followed by live entertainment from Rochester’s own and North America’s #1 Party Band, Nik and the Nice Guys.
