Underwood resigns; Board selects Filipowicz as new Clarkson Supervisor

The Clarkson Town Board held a special meeting on January 15 following the abrupt resignation of Town Supervisor Jerry Underwood.

The Democrat served just one year of the two-year term to which he was elected in 2017, defeating long-time incumbent Paul Kimball in an upset. Underwood cited personal reasons for the resignation. (A message from Underwood follows this article.)

At the standing room only meeting, the Clarkson Town Board elected Christa Filipowicz, a Republican, to fill the position for the remainder of the term. She is the first woman to hold the supervisor position in Clarkson and will be on the ballot in the November general election.

“The Clarkson and Monroe GOP Committees are excited to have a knowledgeable and responsible public servant like Christa Filipowicz take the helm at the Town of Clarkson,” said Monroe County Republican Chairman Bill Reilich. “We are looking forward to the leadership Christa can provide with her experience as a Town Councilwoman and her deep roots in the Clarkson community.

Thank you to Clarkson residents

After long, thoughtful and resourceful reflection, I have resigned as Supervisor of the Town of Clarkson, due to personal reasons.

I am very grateful to the residents of Clarkson who voted for me and all the residents of the town who put their trust in me this year to represent them. I will continue to be a loyal, honorable and faithful servant to the town that we all call home.

It has been my honor to serve you as your Supervisor and it was very rewarding for me to work with all the Clarkson residents. This is a wonderful community of caring and kind citizens who want bipartisanship and civility in their small town government. I strived for that on a daily basis and I worked hard everyday for all the residents of our town.

Best Regards,

Jerry Underwood
