Rita Margaret Zapf

•Zapf, Rita Margaret (Lattinville), Gates: Rita was welcomed home to the loving arms of the Lord on Friday, January 23, 2015.

Rita is survived by her seven children (and their spouses): Kathleen (Robert) Lindeman, Bernard (Patricia) Zapf, Robert (Anne) Zapf, Brian (Alicia) Zapf, Christine (Dr. James) Longo, David (Valerie) Zapf, and Douglas (Ellen) Zapf; her grandchildren: Donald (Tammy) Lindeman, Karen (Jason) Conrad, Sara Beth Lindeman, Amy (Peter) Sawyer, Bernard “BJ” Zapf, Robyn (James) O’Donnell, Christopher (Allie) Zapf, Dr. Matthew Zapf, Gregory Zapf, Katie Longo, Meghan Longo, Kayleigh Zapf and Jordan Zapf. Her cherished great-grandchildren include: Aaron, Zoe, Zack, Bailey, Nathan, Emma, Griffin and Derek. She also leaves sisters-in-law: Jean Smith, Loretta Fowler and Eleanor (George) Heinlein, and many dear cousins and friends. Rita was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Bernard J. Zapf, her brother, Dr. Henry Lattinville, and her grandson, Andrew Zapf.

After supporting St. Augustine Parish for 17 years, Rita and her husband, Bernie, were leading members of the drive to build the new church at St. Pius X Parish. Rita was a member of both the Seasoned Peoples Group at St. Pius X and the Chili Garden Club; and an ardent supporter of Aquinas Institute.

Living her last 10 years at Seabury Woods, she enjoyed the activities, computer games and social events offered there. Rita’s family is grateful for the love and compassionate support from the staff at Seabury Assisted Living Community.

Rita’s deep Catholic faith, calm spirit and unparalleled zest for life were contagious and inspired anyone who had the pleasure of spending time with her.

Relatives & friends may call on Mon. Jan. 26th, from 4-8PM at the Funeral Home of ALVAH HALLORAN & SON, 2125 Chili Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tues. Jan. 27th at 11:30AM at Holy Ghost Church, 250 Coldwater Rd. Interment in St. Pius X Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider giving either, the Gift of Life, a blood donation through the American Red Cross, or donations to the Episcopal Senior Life Community.
