Brockport Board of Education adopts budget; public hearing set

The Brockport Central School District Board of Education unanimously adopted the proposed 2014-2015 budget during the April 1 meeting. The $73,783,814 budget projects a 0.78% tax rate increase (the actual tax rate is set in August).

The budget was balanced utilizing $3,690,000 of fund balance and reserves and a tax levy increase of 1.2%. The tax levy is less than Brockport’s tax levy limit (cap) of 1.52%.

The proposed budget supports the District’s strategic plan and is designed to maximize student achievement.

In addition to the 2014-2015 Proposed Budget, two board trustee positions (five-year terms) and propositions to purchase buses and to establish a Capital Reserve Fund are on the ballot for May 20. The vote will be held in the Technology and Training Center, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (40 Allen Street, Building 800).

Additional budget information will be provided in the April/May “Focus” newsletter which will be delivered to residents in the May 4 issue of the Suburban News and Hamlin-Clarkson Herald. Visitwww.bcs1.org/budget as information is updated.

Community members will also have an opportunity to learn more about the budget at a Public Hearing on May 6 at 7 p.m. in the Fred W. Hill School Cafetorium.
