Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation awards $63,500 in scholarships

The Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation announced the awarding of 18 scholarships totaling $63,500 to local students for the 2014-2015 academic school year.

The Foundation offers two types of scholarships to residents of the Towns of Sweden and Hamlin. The Philip and Margaret Dollard Business Scholarship is awarded to those majoring in business and the Marie Dollard McGrath Elementary Education Scholarship is awarded to those majoring in elementary education. This year’s recipients of the Philip and Margaret Dollard Business Scholarship are:

•Isabella Ekeze (Sweden) – Stevenson University
•Victoria Farrell (Hamlin) – Rochester Institute of Technology
•Jami Barber (Hamlin) – SUNY Fredonia
•Kyle Zaffuto (Sweden) – St. John Fisher College
•Matthew Lester (Sweden) – Nova Southeastern University
•Dylan Garlock (Hamlin) – University at Buffalo
•Richard Zaffuto (Sweden) – Syracuse University
•Michael Knapp (Hamlin) – Houghton College
•Brett Mickey (Sweden) – Niagara University

The recipients of the Marie Dollard McGrath Elementary Education Scholarship are:

•Serafina Breslawski (Sweden) – Buffalo State College
•Lysa Hoyt (Sweden) – Roberts Wesleyan College
•Brooke Hare (Sweden)  – SUNY Brockport
•Kathryn Johnson (Sweden) – Nazareth College
•Jakob Bartalo (Sweden) – Syracuse University
•Paige Lammes (Hamlin) – SUNY Brockport
•Michael Warboys (Sweden) – SUNY Geneseo
•Kailey Zorn (Sweden) – Roberts Wesleyan College
•Solera Sherry (Hamlin) – Buffalo State College

Margaret A. McGrath established the Foundation in 2004 under her will to provide scholarships to residents of the towns of Sweden and Hamlin who have chosen to pursue a degree in either business or elementary education. The Foundation ha awarded $444,500 in scholarships since its formation.

Qualifying 2015 graduating high school seniors and current college students should submit applications for the 2015-2016 academic year by March 1, 2015.
