Northwood student recognized for “Doing The Right Thing”

Hailee Weber, a fifth grader at Northwood Elementary School in Hilton, recently was recognized by the Rochester Police Department with a “Do The Right Thing” Award. Hailee was nominated by her teacher, Jessica Thompson, for her bravery and quick thinking. This past summer, Jessica was swimming in her neighbor’s pool when the neighbor’s 14-month old granddaughter fell in. Jessica quickly grabbed the baby and got her to safety before the adults in the area could even respond. Her quick reaction may have saved the baby’s life.

The “Do The Right Thing” program is designed to seek out the outstanding youth in the community who have distinguished themselves as role models for their peers. They achieve this status by committing “random acts of kindness” or by simply “doing the right thing.”

Hailee was recognized during an award ceremony at the City of Rochester Public Safety Building. Deputy Chief Fred Bell presented Hailee with her award. After the ceremony, Hailee, the other award recipients, their families and nominators enjoyed a pizza party.
