Students at Brockport’s Hill School learn about hospitality options

On Friday, December 5, 12 fifth-grade Hill School students completed their Hotel Management Program with a field trip to Brockport’s Hampton Inn.

Over a three-month period, the General Manager of the Hampton Inn Thomas Bartz directed activities that revolved around Hotel Management. Bartz and his staff taught concepts outlined in the New York State Learning Standards under Career Development and Occupational Studies. Examples of the lessons include Brand Loyalty, Front Desk Focus, Systems/Personnel Management, Facilities Maintenance, Advertising and “Hamptonality.”

Students got to experience first-hand the “behind the scenes” activities needed to successfully operate the Hampton Inn.

After the training, students sent their mentors thank-you letters with a common theme: They are all interested in working in the Hospitality Industry.
