Hilton Quest students celebrate Culture Day

Students and staff at Quest Elementary School in Hilton held their first Culture Day on March 27 and it was a resounding success. Primary student Luke Pisani, with the guidance of Greg Booth, REACH (gifted and talented) teacher, organized the morning-long event.

Students rotated through sessions with their “passports” to help them keep track of the countries they visited. Twenty-one countries in all were represented in 21 different rooms with presentations by teachers, Quest students, and students from Roberts Wesleyan College. Presentations included games and activities, such as learning a Spanish dance, food tasting, demonstrations and displays, but also included religions, literature, trading/bartering/paying for goods and services, communication and much more.

After spring break, Quest elementary-level students started a new planner (unit of study) entitled “Around the World in Six Weeks.” The Culture Day that took place on the last day before vacation was a great way to jump start the new planner. Students are learning how cultures share similarities and differences across the world. Classes are studying a variety of cultures and exploring some of the literature that exists in these cultures as well.
