Rangers win state honors at NYS DECA

On March 9 through 11, the Spencerport High School DECA chapter competed in the New York State DECA competition held in downtown Rochester. Representing SHS included seniors Michela Maiola and Jager Ritzenthaler; junior Steven Holko; sophomores Julia Dubman, Abby Spielman and Lindsay Gallagher; and freshmen Alyssa Libonati and Chris Ferrari.
The students competed against more than 2,000 students across New York state with the following accomplishments:
•Steven Holko won three medals for placing in the top 10 in the Personal Financial Literacy Event.
•Lindsay Gallagher won three medals for placing in the top 10 in the Personal Financial Literacy Event.
•Chris Ferrari won a medal for placing in the top 10 for the role-play in Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

Jager Ritzenthaler and Michela Maiola were inducted into the New York State DECA Honor Society for their outstanding academic achievements and their outstanding accomplishments at DECA Regional and State Competitions. Jager and Michela also placed second in New York State in the Hospitality Services Team Decision Making Event.

Due to their outstanding performance, Jager and Michela qualify to compete in the DECA International Career Development Conference to take place in Nashville, Tennessee from April 23 to 26.

Abby Spielman placed second in the Principles of Marketing event. She also qualifies to compete in the international conference in Nashville.

Mrs. Melissa Garofalo, a SHS business teacher and DECA advisor, received the Outstanding Service Award from New York DECA, which is given to an advisor in recognition of their time, talent and dedicated efforts to New York DECA.
