McGee, who has served as Interim Principal at the High School since October 2015, has been with the District for nine years. “The sky is the limit for Byron-Bergen,” he said. “Right now, we have a culture where we can really focus on providing a wide variety of opportunities and programs for students. All of our decisions must be about what is best for the students at B-B.”

A panel of teachers, administrators, students, staff and Board of Education members reviewed many applications and interviewed several strong candidates for the leadership position at the High School. BOE President Debi List said, “I am extremely happy that Mr. McGee was the successful candidate. His enthusiasm, vision and love for our community, school, faculty, staff and kids were evident.”

McGee grew up in Genesee County in Batavia and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2001. He majored in Childhood Education and Special Education for grades 1 through 6 at St. John Fisher College, where he played basketball. Following graduation, McGee joined B-B as a fifth-grade teacher and coached the boys’ varsity basketball team and JV softball team.

He earned a Master of Curriculum and Instruction degree in 2010 from the University of Buffalo and received Advanced Certification in Educational Leadership in 2013 from the University of Rochester. After five years of teaching, McGee became a Teacher on Special Assignment as the Dean of Students for one year and then the Assistant Principal for two more years.

“B-B has a very positive culture of trust and respect,” he says. “I look at our students, teachers and staff, parents, and community members as partners. I truly believe that focusing on positive relationships and building a trusting culture are essential to teaching and learning. Over my time here, I have been greatly influenced by wonderful people.”
