Special guest readers visit Chestnut Ridge Elementary

Students at Churchville-Chili’s Chestnut Ridge Elementary School celebrated Read Across America Day on March 2 with a day of reading. Classrooms were visited by a lineup of special guests who each chose a favorite book to share with their audiences.

Readers included Chili Town Supervisor David Dunning. He read “Cat and Dog” by author Michael Foreman, and found many fans of his own festively decorated Christmas house among the class members.

Another favorite reader was visitor Vikki Wright. Wright was on hand to celebrate the power of reading and support her own daughter, Chestnut Ridge’s Assistant Principal Jennifer Dixon. Other morning readers included Dixon herself, plus CCCSD Superintendent Lori Orologio, and district staff members Sue Witter and Giulio Bosco.

In the afternoon, class visitors included Board of Education member Lynn Fulmore, members of the Robert’s men’s soccer team and CRS Principal Kim Hale.

The National Education Association’s Read Across America, now in its 20th year, focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships and reading resources.
