Brockport CSD hosts Excelsior Scholarship information session

Brockport Central School District will host an information session on the nation’s first tuition-free college degree program on June 19. The Excelsior Scholarship Program was enacted by Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature this year in an attempt to make college possible for thousands of students across the state and to help to alleviate the burden of student debt.

According to the New York State Department of Labor, more than 940,000 middle-class families and individuals making up to $125,000 per year will qualify to attend college tuition-free at all CUNY and SUNY two- and four-year colleges in the state. The new program begins in the fall of 2017 and will be phased in over three years.

Students and parents are invited to learn more about the Excelsior Scholarship Program and its requirements at an information session at Brockport High School on June 19. The session will begin at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium and will be led by Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. The event is open to the public.
