Clarkson Academy presents discussion on climate change

Dr. Jennifer Ramsay, Associate Professor of Anthropology at the College at Brockport, will present a talk “Agriculture in Arid Enviornments: Ancient Evidence of Past Success & Contribution to a Global Future” on October 3 at 7 p.m. at the Clarkson Academy

The presentation will give particular relevance to the world-wide warming climate of today. Dr. Ramsay’s research centers on the remains of ancient plants from archaeological sites in Israel, Italy and Jordan, where she directs an archaeological field school for Brockport students at Petra.

Dr. Ramsay’s talk will focus on evidence for large scale agricultural activity used to support the Roman military build-up in hyper-arid regions of Southern Jordan, and how past successes using minimal technology may contribute to alleviating modern agricultural problems which are a possibility here as the climate changes.

The talk is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. The Clarkson Academy is located at 8343 Ridge Road, next to the Clarkson Community Church.
