Four C-C seniors receive National Merit Scholarship commendations

Churchville-Chili High School seniors Emily Morgan, Lauren Stevens, Connor Wilson and Connor Woodring were named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit® Scholarship (NMS) Program. Commended Students are honored for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry. Over 1.6 million students took the qualifying test; students winning Letters of Commendation achieved scores in the top five percent.

Churchville-Chili High School Principal Scott Wilson presented students with their certificates. “This is an opportunity to recognize you as students who really go above and beyond every day,” he told them. “You should be very proud of this accomplishment. I know that your teachers and counselors are very happy for you, as am I.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program is one of the most prestigious academic competitions for recognition and scholarships. It recognizes the 50,000 highest scorers on the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Some 16,000 of them continue in the competition as Semifinalists. (Finalists will have an opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships.) The other 34,000 high performers are honored with special Letters of Commendation.
