Preschoolers at Little Red Schoolhouse learn about the history of Spencerport

The preschoolers at Ogden Recreation’s Little Red Schoolhouse have been learning about the history of Spencerport, the Erie Canal and the bridges and transportation along the canal. On a recent field trip to the Spencerport Depot and Canal Museum, Director Simon Devenish and Town Historian Carol Coburn brought the students’ newfound knowledge to life. Devenish welcomed the students for a presentation at the Depot then Coburn walked with them to the gazebo where they learned more information. The children were also able to see the building where the bridge tenders raise and lower the bridge. The Galley Restaurant welcomed the group for ice cream after their tour.
