Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation awards scholarships to 18 local students

The Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation announced the awarding of 18 scholarships totaling $64,000 to local students for the 2018-2019 academic school year.

The foundation offers two types of scholarships to residents of the Towns of Sweden and Hamlin. The Philip and Margaret Dollard Business Scholarship is awarded to those majoring in business and the Marie Dollard McGrath Elementary Education Scholarship is awarded to those majoring in elementary education.

This year’s recipients of the Philip and Margaret Dollard Business Scholarship include:

•Isabella Ekeze (Sweden) – SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology

•Jacob Lewis (Sweden) – University of Buffalo

•Zachary Sodoma (Sweden) – SUNY Brockport

•Christopher Sodoma (Sweden) – St. John Fisher College

•Jacob Vinch (Hamlin) – St. John Fisher College

•Joseph McNulty (Hamlin) – Roberts Wesleyan College

•Sarah Heyden (Hamlin) – SUNY Brockport

•Anthony Polizzi (Hamlin) – Case Western Reserve University

•Quinlan Ignaszak (Sweden) – Bethel College

•Cody Travis (Hamlin) – St. Bonaventure University

•Taylor Requa (Hamlin) – Duquesne University

•Zachary LaMere (Hamlin) – Monroe Community College

The recipients of the Marie Dollard McGrath Elementary Education Scholarship include:

•Julia Pacitto (Sweden) – SUNY Oswego

•Jessica Pauly (Hamlin) – SUNY Cortland

•Alexandra Bradshaw (Hamlin) – Niagara University

•Taylor Kingsbury (Hamlin) – St. John Fisher College

•Peyton Young (Hamlin) – SUNY Brockport

•Solera Sherry (Hamlin) – Buffalo State College.

Margaret A. McGrath established the foundation in 2004 under her will to provide scholarships to residents of the Towns of Sweden and Hamlin who have chosen to pursue a degree in either business or elementary education. The foundation has awarded $680,000 in scholarships since its formation.

Qualifying 2019 graduating high school seniors and current college students should submit applications for the 2019-2020 academic year by March 1, 2019.
