C-C students welcome local professionals to Career Day

For the past 11 years, professionals from an impressive range of regional businesses and organizations have volunteered their insights and expertise to students as part of Churchville-Chili’s Ninth Grade Academy Career Day. On November 20, students again gave their full attention to around 40 experts from a dozen fields as far-ranging as animal science, architecture, social media and healthcare.

Each career group presented a 45-minute outline of their field and job responsibilities, and answered questions from interested students. Several speakers, like Rory Weilnau, a civil engineer with Stantec Consulting Services, are C-C HS alumni themselves, and remember their own experiences with Career Day.

Career Education Coordinator Ann Maher said, “Our goal is to spark interest in our students for a career area and help them see the connection between their academics and the future. The event is made possible with the support of our many presenters, who are parents of our students, alumni of Churchville-Chili, and community members. We are incredibly grateful to all of them for taking time out to meet with our young people. Career Day proves to be a great way for the community and school district to work together to benefit students.”

Each student was able to choose four areas of interest from the areas of digital arts, social media and photography, business and marketing, computer science and information technology, engineering and manufacturing, healthcare services and health sciences, architecture and construction, law and public safety, culinary arts or animal science. Businesses represented at the event included Agape Physical Therapy, ALA Architects, ARC of Livingston-Wyoming, Bar Bantam, Bausch and Lomb, Brand Networks, Campus Construction Management Group, Churchville Veterinary Hospital, Delphi Technologies, FDNY, Gates Fire District, Harris Corporation, Helen and Gertrude, Optimax, Precise Tool and Manufacturing, RIT, Rochester Police Department, Seneca Waterways Council, The Stowe Law Firm, University of Rochester and URMC, and Valhalla Café and Catering.
