Bright Smiles, Bright Futures coming to BCSD

The Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures dental van will be visiting Brockport Central School District on Tuesday, May 14 to provide free dental screenings and education to children between the ages of one and 12 years old.

Participating children will receive a free dental screening and will be taught how to brush and floss as well as the importance of eating healthy foods and visiting the dentist.

The dentist or hygienist will look at the child’s teeth but no sharp instruments will be used. Dentists are required to change gloves for each child that is screened. The program also follows strict health guidelines to ensure that each child is safe and is treated with care and sensitivity.

After this, the child will get a free toothbrush and toothpaste. Parents will receive a report on the child’s teeth and a list of treatment referral clinics for follow-up treatment (for those who do not already have a family dentist).

Parents of BCSD students who would like their child to participate should return the consent form to the child’s teacher by May 3.

Children between the ages of one and 12 who don’t attend the Brockport Central School District will also have an opportunity to participate in this free program. The schedule for the May 14 community clinic will be posted May 6 at www.bcs1.org. Community members wishing to participate outside of the school program should contact Debbie Moyer at 637-1810 or by email at Debbie.moyer@bcs1.org.
