Ferris Goodridge American Legion Auxiliary #330 has selected Saveria Panella, a junior at Spencerport High School, as a delegate to Empire Girls State. This week-long leadership program is sponsored by the Department of New York American Legion Auxiliary and will be held at The College at Brockport in July. Saveria will join 360 young women from across New York State and together they will engage in hands-on activities related to Americanism and participation in government.

Saveria, daughter of Karen and Antonio Panella, is a young woman with varied interests. She has played softball almost her entire life and finds that it gives her energy, drive and motivation. Another major involvement is her four year long participation in the Sea Cadet Corps, a naval program for youth sponsored by Congress. Saveria has actively participated in annual training events and attained the rank of Petty Officer First Class. Through this youth group she has participated in the Memorial Day Parade four times, Wreaths Across America four times, and attended the Navy Ball three times. Her leadership qualities are apparent during staffing training where she is a youth leader. Additionally, Saveria has helped with the Breakfast with Santa program and the Women Veterans ceremonies. She also finds time to volunteer as an altar server at her church. Saveria, already part of an Honor Company, was presented with the United States History and Government Academic Achievement Award and the Military Excellence VFW Award.

Saveria will bring her talents and skills to Empire Girls State where her new experiences will enhance her views about the integral part that an individual plays within a democratic government.
