The 2019-20 Fine Arts Series at The College at Brockport kicks off on Friday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m. with a concert by Grammy Award-nominated saxophonist Jimmie Highsmith, Jr. and Friends. The concert will take place at the Tower Fine Arts Center, 180 Holley Street, Brockport. Tickets are $17 general, $12 for senior citizens, Brockport alumni, faculty and staff, and $9 for students and are available online at http://fineartstix.brockport.edu.  After forming a jazz band while serving in the Air Force, in order to play USO gigs, the critically acclaimed Highsmith returned to Rochester after his tour was completed. About his music, Highsmith has said “Anything can inspire me. Maybe an emotion or a person. It could be a smell. It could be a situation. There’s no one recipe for me when writing a song.”

In the past decade he has recorded 10 top-selling smooth jazz CDs that have sold thousands of copies worldwide. His CD, The Anthology of Sound, received a Grammy nomination.

Joining Highsmith will be Larry Singleton, keyboards; Tony Hiler, drums; and Jerome Bell, bass.
