Dr. Cathy Houston-Wilson receives Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Cathy Houston-Wilson, a resident of Holley, and chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education at The College at Brockport, was honored with the 2019 Distinguished Service Award by New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD), a statewide organization whose membership consists of K-16 professionals and future professionals. Dr. Houston-Wilson’s award was presented at the Jay B. Nash Award Dinner during the Association’s 82nd Annual Conference held at the Turning Stone Convention Center in November.

Dr. Houston-Wilson has published over 26 articles in journals and book chapters, and co-authored the book Strategies for Inclusion: Physical Education for Everyone. She has served in numerous leadership positions, including NYS Coordinator for Physical Best for 24 years. The College at Brockport’s Chancellors Award for Excellence in Faculty Service is among the many awards Dr. Houston-Wilson has received.

Her colleagues wrote, “Cathy is a tireless advocate and scholar in her profession.  Her dedication flows effortlessly into her classes, her exceptional mentorship of students, and her consistent effort to engage faculty and young professionals into the professional community. She has a unique personality that enables her to be an extremely effective and affective leader.”
