Hilton bus driver named Miss First Frontier Circuit 2020

The students on bus 103 at Village Elementary School in Hilton were not only named “Bus of the Month” because of their exemplary behavior, but they received their award from Miss First Frontier Circuit 2020, a.k.a. Rebecca Gates, their bus driver.

Gates competed in the pageant held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania during the First Frontier Circuit, January 9 through 11. The Circuit is one of 14 in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). During the pageant, the contestants were judged in several different categories, which included a written test, horsemanship, and an interview. In addition to the overall title, Gates won the Appearance Award, Spirit Award, Miss Congeniality Award, and Personality Award, and was runner-up for the Horsemanship Award.

As Miss First Frontier Circuit 2020, Gates will be traveling the United States, Canada, and Mexico representing the 13 states on the East Coast. In April, she will be making her first appearance at the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kissimmee, Florida. Gates was also named New York State School Bus Driver of the Year for 2019-20.

Bus of the Month is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative that recognizes students on a specific bus for positive behavior. The bus is given the front parking space for the month and a “Bus of the Month” sign, and students walk into school on a red carpet while staff and fellow students cheer.
