Saints close in on tennis repeat

Churchville-Chili’s girls tennis team defeated Hilton 6-1 and, with one more victory, would defend their first-in-school-history Division III championship from last fall.

The Saints swept all four singles matches with first singles Alyssa Brault winning 6-1, 6-3 in her ongoing effort to win a third consecutive Class A individual title; freshman Laura Freeman took her second singles match 6-0, 6-2 and Carolyn Fasone had little trouble in a 6-3, 6-3 victory at third singles.
One of the closest matches was at fourth singles as Megan Wallace broke serve with the third set tied at 5-5 to take a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 win.
The Saints also won the top two doubles matches as seniors Jenny Gallo and Courtney Maysick won 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles with the junior team of Brianna Starr and Lauren Burr taking their 6-3, 6-3 second doubles match.
Hilton’s Christina DiNardo and Tina Burret accounted for the Cadets’ only win with a third doubles 7-5, 6-3 victory.
