Winter collegiate sports honors noted

•Hilton grad Jordan Ott set a school record in points (36), goals (22) and power play goals (9), was eighth nationally in scoring with 36 points and was ECAC West Rookie of the Year as well as Second Team All-ECAC West playing women’s hockey for Potsdam.

•Spencerport grad Jerome Owens was named First Team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after averaging a double-double for Hilbert’s men’s basketball team.

•Fredonia State senior guard Becky Hebert (Hilton) was named SUNYAC First team All-Conference after leading the Blue Devils in scoring and free throw percentage while starting all 24 games.

•College at Brockport senior John Ivey was named Player of the Year and First Team All-SUNYAC, Brandon Caruthers Second Team and Greg Dunne Coach of the Year in men’s basketball.

•Spencerport’s Paul Glover (Spencerport) advanced to the Division III National Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and became the 135th All-American in program history at 197 lb.

•Holley’s Mike Silvis was 11-9 in his first year wrestling for the University of Buffalo as one of three at 197 lb.

•Senior Tara Caples (Spencerport) of Medaille wrapped up her collegiate career third on the team in rebounding and fourth in scoring for the 19-7 Mavericks.

•Spencerport’s Chris Plummer and Tyler Nichols were named to the Liberty League All-Academic Men’s Swimming Team for Clarkson University. Alex Timberlake (Churchville) was named to the Women’s All-Academic Team competing for RIT.

•Roberts Wesleyan junior forward Isaac Medeiros was named NCCAA East Region Player of the Year and East Coast Conference Honorable Mention after leading the Redhawks to their second-consecutive berth to the NCCAA National Championships later this month. Medeiros paced Roberts Wesleyan with a team-high 16.3 points per game while also averaging 9.0 rebounds. The forward shot 50.8% from the field this season while notching a team-best 31 blocked shots. Fellow forward, Tyrel Dixon earned First Team honors after finishing the season with 11.4 points per game, grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game and leading the team in steals (39) and assists (58). Senior Patrick Downer was named to the Second Team.

•Roberts Wesleyan senior forward Chelsea Sanders was named to the East Coast Conference All-Conference First Team after leading the Redhawks in scoring this season averaging 15.6 points per game which placed her fifth in the ECC in that category. She also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game, which was 11th-best in the conference. Junior forward Marissa Sell (Brockport) was named to the All-Conference Second Team. Sell posted nine double-doubles for the Redhawks averaging 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

•College at Brockport women’s indoor track & field placed four athletes on the All-SUNYAC squads. Ann Milliken (Weight Throw) and Rachel Malone (5000m Run) were First Team with teammates Alison Massaro (60m Dash) and Hailey Smith (Triple Jump) Second Team picks. The men placed five athletes in Antoine Keels, a First Team choice for the shot put, while Gary Messina (5000m Run), Andrew Baker (Mile), Cameron Shaughnessy (Pole Vault), and Brendon Ganschow (Shot Put) were named Second Team.

•Golden Eagles senior forward Chris Cangro and sophomore defenseman Chris Luker were named First Team All-SUNYAC in men’s ice hockey. Cangro tied for the team lead in scoring and Luker was the top-scoring defenseman and third overall on the team.
