Redhawks named conference players-of-the-week

Churchville-Chili grad Bella Mitrevski was named East Coast Conference (ECC) women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Orla Martin Rookie of the Week while Michael Scavone was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer for the week ending Sept. 7 as Roberts Wesleyan was impacting the early season results in the first season as a full-fledged Division II program.

Mitrevski netted four goals and added three assists in two games last week. In a 3-2 win at Le Moyne, Mitrevski scored once while contributing on another. Two days later, she scored three-goals while adding two assists in a 7-3 romp over Nyack. Through the first week, Mitrevski leads the ECC in points (11), goals (4), assists (3), and shots (14).

Martin started her college career with three goals over the two games. Against Le Moyne, she put the Redhawks on the board late in the first half to help in the comeback win and scored twice against Nyack. Martin ranked second in the conference in goals (3) and points (6).

Junior goalkeeper Scavone  helped the Redhawks register a pair of shutouts in their first game contests. In the season opener, he played 68 minutes of a 6-0 win against Alfred State before playing the full 120 minutes in a scoreless draw against Nyack. The junior notched six saves to start the year out with a 1.000 save percentage.

After the first week of play, he ranks fifth in the conference in saves (6) and sits atop the standings in goals against (0), goals against average (0.00), and save percentage (1.000).
