Learn to swim: Area Ys host annual Splash Week

The YMCA of Greater Rochester is offering free water-safety and basic-skills program for the entire Greater Rochester community, through its annual Splash Week program, from March 30 to April 3. It has been offered in Greater Rochester for over 10 years.

“Splash Week draws participation from an average of more than 2,000 community members and their families, and more than 150 volunteers throughout the week,” said Camilla Raimo, association aquatics executive of the YMCA of Greater Rochester. “At the YMCA of Greater Rochester we are passionate about the importance of water safety for our community members, and the week aligns with our key pillars of healthy living and youth development. The lessons and skills community members develop during Splash Week will stay with them for life.”

The YMCA’s Splash Week, presented by First Niagara, is open to Y members and non-members, and offers morning and afternoon classes for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Classes offered are grouped by age, including child with parent, preschool with parent, preschool, youth, teen, adult and special needs.

Priority registration is offered to non-YMCA members in an effort to get the entire community involved. YMCA members may register starting March 16.

Splash Week classes run Monday through Thursday, with family swim time for Splash Week participants and their families on Friday.

The following YMCA of Greater Rochester branches are hosting Splash Week:
•Northwest Family YMCA, 730 Long Pond Road, Greece
•Westside Family YMCA, 920 Elmgrove Road, Gates

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. For information visit rochesterymca.org/splashweek.
