Hawks fall to Attica

Holley sophomore Anna Brasted had two RBIs and two runs scored, but Attica plated 16 runs in the top of the seventh inning to blow open their 35-10 win in varsity softball.

The Hawks scored four times in the first inning to take their only lead of the game. Brooklyn Bartholomew and Tabitha Swift began the rally with singles before Brasted drove in the first run with a single. Madison Papaj then reached on an error scoring both Swift and Brasted. Brianna Vanameron followed with an RBI single for the fourth run.

Attica scored six times in the second inning to take a 10-4 lead, but the Hawks bounced back in their half of the inning to keep the game close.

Bailey Papaj reached on a one-out error and went to second on a fielder’s choice. Swift had a clutch two-out RBI single to center for the first run of the inning. Brasted reached on an error putting runners at first and second before Madison Papaj also reached on an error allowing Swift to score and leaving runners on the corners.

Madison Papaj and Brasted then pulled off a double steal with Brasted scoring and Papaj later scoring on a throwing error as she advanced to third on the throw home.

After Attica made it 14-8 in the third, the Hawks scored their final two runs in the bottom of the inning. Brianna Barber reached second on an error and went to third on a single by Bailey Papaj, who then stole second. Bartholomew knocked in Barber with a single and Brasted’s two-out single later in the inning plated the final run of the game for Holley.

Attica scored 21 runs over the final four innings to drop the Hawks to 0-3 in the young season.
