Eagles’ six-run third seals win

Kendall took advantage of four walks, four wild pitches and three errors to plate six runs in the third inning on their way to a 17-4 girls softball win over Holley.

Holley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Brianna Vanameron had a one-out single to left, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Heather Winkley then surprised everyone with a two-out RBI bunt single between first base and the mound.

The Eagles countered in their half of the inning with three runs. After loading the bases, Kali Haskins drove in one run with a two-out infield single and Marisa Hanlon followed with a two-RBI single to left.

Kendall broke the game open in the third with six runs as Hannah Evans drew a bases-loaded walk to plate one run and Taylor Kingsbury hit into an RBI fielder’s choice. A third run scored on an error and the other three runs came across on wild pitches.

The Hawks plated two runs in the fourth as Anna Brasted had a leadoff single and went to second as Vanameron was hit by a pitch. Brooklynn Bartholomew walked to load the bases before Brianna Barber stroked a two-RBI single to center.

The Eagles made it 13-3 in their half of the fifth inning as Kacey Menge, who was earlier hit by a pitch, scored on a strikeout-wild pitch, Carley Lester drove in a run with a single followed by Brianna Jurs and Lester scoring on wild pitches.

Holley’s final run came in the sixth as Vanameron reached on an infield single, stole second and, after a Bartholomew infield single, pulled off a double steal putting runners on second and third. Vanameron scored on a fielder’s choice bunt.

The Eagles finished the contest in the sixth scoring four runs. Sarah Pearson hit into a bases-loaded fielder’s choice to drive in Becca Pearson, who had walked. Lester was hit by a pitch to plate the second run before Skye Brice pushed across the third with a walk. The game ended as Blacey Bakutis was hit by a pitch to drive in the final run.

The victory was Kendall’s third of the season with three games remaining in the regular season.
