Rangers baseball advances

Thirteenth seed Spencerport scored four runs on just two hits in the fourth inning to blow open what became a 10-2 victory over fourth seed East in the Class AA play-in round of the Section V baseball playoffs.

Leading 4-0 after two innings, the Rangers took advantage of leadoff walks to seniors Cameron Hill and Brandon Corey to open the fourth. Josh Gillette reached on a bunt single to load the bases before Donald Eldridge was hit by a pitch to drive in the first run of the inning.

Corey scored on a wild pitch and Jake Lane plated Gillette with an infield single. Aidan Eldridge drove in the final run of the inning with a fielder’s choice RBI to put the Rangers up 8-0.

Starting pitcher Steven Dent earned the win, which advances the Rangers to the second round against #12 Rush-Henrietta, who upset fifth-seed Webster-Thomas in the first round.
