Downey and Johnson selected to Rangers Athletic Hall of Fame

The recipients of this year’s selection for the Spencerport High School Athletic Hall of Fame are Danielle Downey and Scott Johnson (Teacher/Coach).

During her career at Spencerport, Downey lettered in Girls’ Basketball and Boys’ Golf. She received girls’ basketball team All County MVP and All Greater Rochester honors as well as All State recognition in 1999. She scored over 1,000 points in her career for the highest scoring average and field goal percentage.

She earned a full NCAA Division I Scholarship from Auburn University for golf where she won three collegiate tournaments. She joined the professional ranks playing on both the Symetra (winning the 2014 Lima Memorial tournament) and four years on the LPGA Tour.

Scott Johnson was a physical education teacher with Spencerport for 29 years and also served as Boys’ Varsity Golf Coach, Varsity Girls’ Swim and Boys’ JV Swim Coach. His 1997 Boys’ Golf team went undefeated and was named as NYSPHSAA Team Scholar-Athlete State Champions.

The ceremony will take place at the annual Spencerport Rangers Athletic Banquet on June 8 in the High School Performing Arts Center beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $11 and are available through the Spencerport Athletic Office at 349-5170.
