Spencerport student-athletes care about community

Spencerport Central Schools Department of Physical Education and Athletics is very proud to announce that each of its winter varsity athletic teams participated in a volunteer community service/charity project through the Spencerport Student-Athletes Care Program during the 2016-2017 winter season.

•Boys’ Basketball – Sponsored More Than A Game Foundation “Tip-Off” Tournament and donated over $3,800 with the Girls’ Basketball Team and Cheerleading Team to Golisano Children’s Hospital through the Hoops for Hospitals program and Veterans Outreach Center.

•Girls’ Basketball – Sponsored “Coach Chow Classic” and donated over $3,800 with the Boys’ Basketball Team and Cheerleading Team to Golisano Children’s Hospital through the Hoops for Hospitals program.

•Wresting – Volunteered at the Village of Spencerport’s and Rotary Club’s “Christmas on the Canal.”

•Hockey – Sponsored a “Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey” event at the Bill Gray’s Iceplex.

•Boys’ Swimming – Sponsored “Laps for Life” donating $300 to the “Make Some Noise” Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. The team also sponsored a Canned Food Drive during the Spencerport Relays to Benefit the Spencerport Mobile Food Link Pantry.

•Indoor Track – Volunteered at the Rotary Club’s annual Ziti dinner.

•Boys’/Girls’ bowling – Volunteered at the Mobile Food Link Pantry.

•Winter Cheer – Sponsored the More Than A Game Foundation “Tip-Off” Tournament and “Coach Chow Classic” tournaments and raised over $3,800 with the Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Teams for Golisano Children’s Hospital through the Hoops for Hospitals program.

Spring Athletic teams will also perform volunteer activities during their seasons. The Spencerport Student-Athletes Care program won the 1994 National Award of Excellence for Community Relations from Athletic Management Magazine.
