Blue Devils off to 3-0 start

Brockport led by as many as 12 points in the first half and never trailed on their way to a 50-43 girls basketball win at Churchville-Chili and a 3-0 start to the season.

Junior co-captain Bryn Hayes hit a pair of three-pointers and a free throw and senior co-captain Amanda Lucas added a late trey to stake the Blue Devils to a 14-5 first quarter lead.

Saints juniors Paige Shipley and Tyler Burgess opened the second quarter with a trey and field goal respectively to get Churchville-Chili to within four, but Brockport went on an 8-0 run led by Doralis Allen’s six points.

C-C sophomore Emma Laureano hit a pair of three-pointers early in the second half to bring the Saints to within four points of the lead, but the Blue Devils went on a 9-2 run late in the third quarter highlighted by three free throws and a field goal by Hayes along with a put-back by Lizzie Schultheis to extend the lead to nine.

The Blue Devils extended the lead to as many as 12 on a Lizzie Reynolds trey with less than four minutes remaining before sealing the win at the free throw line.

Hayes led Brockport with 14 points, Allen had 12 points and Lee ten.

Churchville-Chili was paced by Burgess’s 20 points with Mikayla Shipley adding nine in their first game of the season.

Brockport will host Greece Odyssey (12/12) and Brighton (12/14) before a five-game road swing. The Saints will play five consecutive home games starting December 15 with Greece Arcadia.
