Seniors Hannah, Palka carry Blue Devils

Brockport seniors Ishmael Hannah and Kyle Palka combined for 28 points to lead the Blue Devils to a 60-42 victory at Spencerport in boy’s basketball.

Leading 10-9 with a few minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Blue Devils went on a 29-13 run to the end of the first half. Hannah began the streak with an old-fashioned three-point play and junior Shamar Lee followed with a pair of baskets to end the first quarter with the Blue Devils up by seven points.

After Spencerport junior Gino Pellett opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to cut the lead to four, the Blue Devils scored 21 of the next 29 points led by their bench as sophomore Kevin Lawrenz scored seven, junior Troy Leibert added consecutive baskets and junior Esten Schlage scored once off a steal.

The Brockport lead extended to as many as 20 points early in the third quarter before the Rangers rallied on four unanswered buckets by seniors Nick Thibeau and Jon Taylor, a three-point play by sophomore Patrick Uebelacker and a trey by junior Ben Reding to cut the Blue Devils lead to ten.

But a three-point play by Hannah and a trey from junior Isaiah Forty that beat the third quarter buzzer squelched any hopes for a Rangers comeback.

Hannah led all scorers with 16 points and added eight rebounds while Palka scored 12 points for Brockport. Lee finished with seven points and eight rebounds, Leibert chipped in eight boards, Lawrenz seven points and junior Samuel Velletri dished out nine assists to go with five rebounds for the 4-2 Blue Devils.

Thibeau led the 2-3 Rangers with nine points, Uebelacker and Taylor each scored eight points while Pellett added seven.
