Rangers Giannavola, Fedele, Uebelacker line surpasses 100 points

The forward line of sophomore AJ Giannavola with juniors Luc Fedele and Jason Uebelacker combined for nine points bringing their season total to 106 as Spencerport defeated Brockport 7-3 in Monroe County High School hockey.

The Rangers had seven minutes of power play time in the first period including two minutes of five-on-three, but Brockport’s penalty killers and goaltender Luke Schreiner kept the game scoreless after the first period.

The Rangers netted three goals in the second period with the first a tap in by Uebelacker off a feed by Giannavola at 2:46. Less than two minutes later Giannavola and junior Mark Neu converted a two-on-none break for a 2-0 Rangers lead.

Brockport cut that in half at 7:55 of the second as senior Peter Taccone wristed a pass from sophomore Jeremiah Rausch into the net.

But Fedele took advantage as the puck bounced over a defenseman’s stick at the blueline sending him in alone at 12:41 of the second to make it 3-1 Rangers.

Fedele opened the third period with his second goal of the game with both linemates getting assists to extend the lead to 4-1 Spencerport, but the Blue Devils converted on a delayed penalty as senior Matthew Heyden fed Taccone for his second goal of the game at 3:28 to cut the Rangers lead to 4-2.

The two teams again traded goals less than one minute apart as first Spencerport sophomore Joey Cuzzupoli scored from the side of the net with an assist from classmate Chris Hammerle at 13:10.

Brockport countered 52 seconds later when Rausch picked the top corner of the net to again cut the Rangers lead to two goals at 5-3.

But Cuzzupoli shot the puck the length of the ice with the Brockport goaltender pulled for the extra-attacker for his second of the game at 16:07 and Fedele completed his hat trick with 30 seconds remaining as he converted a Giannavola pass off a two-on-one break to make it 7-3.

Rangers junior goaltender Trevor Wiesner earned the win with 23 saves as they picked up their 13th win of the season after winning only two all of last season. The Rangers sat in first place in Division 3 with four games remaining in the regular season.
