Holley opens season in win column

Despite losing four starters from the 2018 girls volleyball squad, Holley swept Lyndonville 25-18, 25-9, 25-22 as both teams opened up their fall schedule.

The Hawks managed just a handful of kills offensively, but registered multiple runs with service aces and played well as a unit defensively.

Sophomore AJ Botello helped Holley jump out to an 8-1 lead in the first game with five consecutive aces. Seniors Ava Parr, Aliyah Weaver (back after a season in East Rochester), and Jade Hoffarth added aces through the middle stages of the game. Senior Alexis Clemons also registered an ace later on in the win.

The Hawks ran out to a 17-4 lead in the second game with junior Rachael Howard knocking down two aces to start, Botello four consecutive midway, and Weaver two more in the late stages with senior Janelle Miles and Hoffarth registering kills.

The score was tied on ten separate occasions in the third game as Miles, Parr, and Hoffarth had kills.

“These guys have played together for years, and it showed,” Holley head coach Kate Connor said.

Botello led with 12 aces and four assists. Weaver had four aces and one kill, Hoffarth three aces and three kills while Parr led the Hawks with three digs to go with her one kill and one ace.
