Rory McIlroy named August 2019 Hickok Belt® Award Winner

Professional golfer Rory McIlroy has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of August 2019. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected McIlroy based on his victory at the TOUR Championship at East Lake Country Club, which also gave him the FedEx Cup title. McIlroy, from North Ireland, became the second player to win multiple FedEx Cups for the second time in four years and earned a $15 million-dollar payout, the biggest in pro golf history.

Other finalists for the month of August in order of how the NSMA ranked them included: Simone Biles (gymnastics), Gerrit Cole (baseball), Aristides Aquino (baseball), Liam Hendriks (baseball), Rafael Nadal (tennis), Madison Keys (tennis), Hinako Shibuno (golf), Chase Elliott (auto racing), John Valazquez aboard Code of Honor (horse racing).

His selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of August 2019 recognizes Rory McIlroy as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the eighth candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2019, joining Novak Djokovic, Kawhi Leonard, Brooks Koepka, Tiger Woods, Kyle Busch, Julian Edelman and Tom Brady.
