B-B senior represented Division V at NYS Wrestling Championships

Byron-Bergen senior Zach Hannan recently represented Division V at the New York State Wrestling Championships. Leading up to States, Hannan was 37-0, placing first in three regular-season tournaments, and winning the titles at Section V Class B2 Championships and Section V, “Super Sectionals.”

“When I started out wrestling, I was average at best,” said Hannan. “I wasn’t one of those guys who is winning states in ninth grade, that’s always been really good. But I trained all season long, all year long, and worked to get to where I am today.”

“He has had a tremendous senior season,” said Rich Hannan, Byron-Bergen Athletic Director and father of Zach Hannan. “As a coach, I am proud of his effort, attitude, and work ethic. Day in and day out, he has been the hardest working kid in the room. He is an excellent role model as a student and an athlete.”

During his varsity wrestling career, Hannan is a three-time Genesee-Region League All-Star, four-time Section V place winner, and two-time Super Sectional place winner. He also made the New York State National team in the summer of 2019 and traveled to Fargo, North Dakota for the National Tournament.

“This season, I really enjoyed being a captain and helping out the younger guys on the team,” said Hannan. “It’s always nice to see them get better.”

After graduation, Hannan plans to attend college to study criminal justice and pursue a career in Federal Law Enforcement.
