Former and current Brockport residents invited to Olde Home Weekend in July

“Olde Home Weekend” is returning to the Brockport area July 3-6. The event is organized by the Town of Sweden Bicentennial Celebration Committee. This will be a slimmed-down version of the Old Home Week that Brockport staged in 1911.

The purpose of the event is to bring back to this community former residents and give them opportunities to reunite with the families and friends they left behind. Brockport area residents are encouraged to invite their re-located friends and family members to allow planning their summer vacation plans.

The weekend will kick off with a 5K race at the Sweden/Town Park on Redman Road  at 9 a.m. on July 3. At 6:30 p.m. a parade will start from the Bill Gray’s parking lot on South Lake Road and wind its way to the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center. At 7 p.m. festivities will begin in the Community Center, with live band music, inflatables, pizza, ice cream, face painting, and children’s games. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

On July 4, the annual Independence Day celebration will take place at the Morgan-Manning House, beginning at 10 a.m., with an emphasis on the history of the Town of Sweden. The committee will host picnics, 3-5 p.m., at the Town Park on Saturday and the Farmer’s Museum on Sunday. They will provide opportunities for the visitors to renew acquaintance with old school chums, neighbors and friends.

To facilitate contact among the visitors, the committee has set up a Facebook page facebook/townofsweden/bicentennial and enter such contact information as the names of hosts, phone numbers, email addresses, planned schedule, etc. Alternatively, they can email that information to the event’s host, Bill Andrews, atwandrews@frontiernet.net. All such information received by July 1 will be published in a directory to be distributed at the activities.
